References

Your employer is not under any obligation to provide you with a reference but if he does so it must not be misleading and its contents must be true, accurate and fair.

Your employer owes a duty of care when issuing a reference and if it breaches this by providing a misleading reference as a result of which you lose the opportunity to take up a new job and so incur a loss you are entitled to bring a claim against them.

If you feel that an employer has acted unfairly when providing a reference then call one of our specialist employment solicitors who will pleased to take you through the options available.
