Pre-Nuptial & Post Nuptial Agreements
It is a sad fact that almost one-third of all marriages end in divorce within 15 years and the number of divorces continues to increase, so it is sensible to take steps to manage this risk.
It is best to do this whilst still on good terms with your new or future husband, wife or partner and thinking rationally; when you are both willing to discuss and agree how to share assets and responsibilities if the relationship breaks down in the future to avoid the Court imposing its own views on how your assets should be dealt with.
The two main options are:
- A pre-nuptial agreement – entered into before the marriage.
- A post-nuptial agreement – entered into at some time during the marriage.
